Imperial Hotel goes green as it joins Tralee’s GLAN initiative

The Imperial Hotel on Denny street is going green.

The hotel is one of the first businesses in Tralee to join the Glan initiative and last week it sent all of its plastic takeaway cups, lids and straws off to the recycling plant to be replaced with 100 per cent green, compostable utensils.

On the day Olive Sheehan, Proprietor and Derek Carroll, General Manager of the Imperial Hotel were joined by Niall O’Shea from Hugh Jordan, supplier of compostable catering materials, and Brian Stephenson of Glan Tralee and the Tralee Environment Task Force, and a representative of Down to Earth.

Tralee and Dingle are the first towns in Ireland to roll out GLAN.

GLAN, which stands for Green Local Area Network, is a new initiative which aims to make Irish towns greener and more environmentally sustainable.

“We are are all very aware of the challenges facing our local and global environment but by making small positive changes together we can create a big positive impact. Organisations can support the GLAN Tralee movement by making small commitments designed to make Tralee a cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable town . Developing Tralee as a town is a win win scenario. It will be good for the environment, our health and well being, tourism and the local economy,” said a GLAN spokesperson.
